First of all we need to say that we have shopped with Cowells for many years and spent not in a small way. We have received as a gift from our family a National garden gift centre crd for 100 pounds, we have partly spent on this gift card at Cowells, and there is some seventy pounds remaining on it, our intention was to spend the remainder at Cowells today (Saturday May 16th). So we queued with others for about good half hour, and on entry chose bedding plants value 100 pounds 75p. We were aware payment was to be by card only. Our intention was to tender our gift card, and pay the difference by bank card. So we tendered the gift card, but the till operator would no accept it, stating that “we the staff are not allowed to handle anything a customer has handled” This astounded us as all around the store staff could be handling plant pots or goods necessarily presented at the tillsfor scanning. Yes we were and are aware that care needs to activated in this Corvus situation we all have endure, but to refuse our currency in the form of our gift card seems in the circumstances not a good customer policy. We recognise the the till operator was acting on management instruction., however it crossed our minds, why was the till operator if she was wearing protective gloves not allowed to accept our already paid for gift card. It also crossed our minds was the mandate issued to staff at the tills to demand payment by bank card only, because that represented ‘ new cash’ into the company revenue. At this point we remain committed customers at Cowells, however this might change depending on the attitude of the company. We remain hopeful that a member of the management team will contact us soonest to alleviate the doubts about the way we have been treated on this one of our many purchases we have made at Cowells.

Absolutely fabulous place to spend a few hours looking through the incredible plant selection. One of the very few true garden centres still remaining in the north east. The only garden centre I spend my plant money in. Please continue to remain wonderful!
