The Beth Chatto Gardens began in 1960. From an overgrown wasteland with poor gravel soil and boggy hollows it has been transformed into an informal garden harmonising with the surrounding countryside.

I can't believe these gardens have not been rated yet. The dry gardens are something to be seen. This is before you have to pay for the main area. Great ideas for dry bed planting. They only sell hardy pereniel plants, but there is a huge selection of good quality plants at reasonable prices. There is a charge to go round the rest of the gardens, but it is worth having a look at there planting ideas. The staff are very helpfull and knowledgable. This is a very famous garden that has been on tv. Beth Chatto Is a celebrated and renowened gardener
