BLOG: Pest control
During the lean months vermin can be a real problem, particularly in sheds and greenhouses where its relatively warm and bedding material and possible food sources are close to hand.
Mice can do quite a bit of damage from chewing through packets and plastic containers to digging out seedlings, especially sweetcorn.
The obvious step to reduce the risk of an unwanted guest is keeping the shed and greenhouse clean and tidy along with storing bird food and other seeds in lidded containers, however the most house proud can get the odd guest and you may well have to set a trap. Depending on your feelings a humane trap could be an option, and these are now widely available, if and when you catch something do remember to set it free a fair distance from your property or your new found friend will be making a quick return.
