Oh dear Ashtead garden centre! What happened in your restaurant? I have been several times and enjoyed it but today was such a disaster it was funny! Arrived 3:30..told no food when asked for menu. Then told we could order afternoon tea. And cakes. Ordered that. Then told..no afternoon tea left? Ordered drinks of tea which arrived. Then ordered cake scones and cream. Told the scones would be 10 minutes and they didnt have the two types of cake we ordered. We re ordered. They arrived. Then another tray of tea arrived. 10 minutes later 4 cream teas arrived. No knives on table, one dirty cup. The waiter was very embarrassed ! We were in hysterics by the end...mad hatters tea part came to mind

Dreadful service in restaurant by un attentive staff during last Saturdays visit for lunch which was a complete farce. The first waitress arrived to take our order as soon as we arrived and we asked her for a bit more time......she never came back! We asked another waitress to take our order which she did at approximately 12-45 . When we had not received our lunch by 1-30 we were told it was just coming. The three pizzas we had orderd finally arrived but not the soup my friend had ordered. When we approached the waitress to ask about the whereabouts of the soup we was told they were not serving soup anymore she hadn't bothered to tell us! No apology offered we felt like an inconvenience! I then spoke to another girl to ask for a plate so my friend could share my pizza as she had no soup and after she spoke to the chef low and behold a bowl of soup arrived. No charge was made for the soup but it didn't make up for the sloppy service from young girls who lack customer service skills.

It is surprising to be waiting to offer for table service when front of house staff are having private conversations. I would be interested to know how the £2:50 cost of a standard can of diet coke is justifiable when other items are ordered.
