Sadly disappointed on many fronts. The service in the restaurant was poor, the food mixed (mine cold) and when we gave feedback to the waitress on the soggy fish batter we were subjected to a disbelieving look rather than an apology. It took ages to attract anyone’s attention for a coffee after our meal and as for paying the bill, we felt we were being deliberately ignored. I don’t know how it is meant to work but I ended up going up to the till & pointing out we had been trying to get the bill without success, again just a raised eyebrow & no apology. We filled out the feedback form & handed it to a different member of staff who left the impression that she would throw it away when we left. We then walked round the garden centre which has some fabulous stock but when we got to the tills which were momentarily unmanned again we were made to feel we were in the wrong to want to pay for our purchases. We thought we had discovered a hidden gem, unfortunately it was not!

It is very unusual for the tills in the garden centre to be unmanned and our staff do usually offer excellent customer service, so please accept our apologies for this temporary lapse. We hope you will give us another try.

Afternoon Tea for 4: This was pre booked for me by my friend, it was my first afternoon tea . We got seated as we arrived, table was fine, sat for 20 minutes not really knowing if we had to order called over a waitress who apologised and took our tea orders, good options, . Tea came with the cake stands, 3 tiers high, bottom tier was sandwiches, cheese, ham tuna and salmon, 2 slices of bread for each filling cut into triangles, .Bread and filling was run of the mill, cheese was sliced processed, ham nothing special, half the bread white, other half brown, no choice on fillings or bread which was unfortunate as i dont like fish or white bread and another diner didnt eat ham,, way too much but fine. Next level was 2 scones, jam and cream, scones were warmed and very dry, disintegrated when you tried to slice them so you had a plate of crumbs, top tier 4 small cakes between 4 of us cut into quarters , tiny morsels, really odd.. £60 seemed astronomical for what we got, wouldnt recommend

What a disappointment! After having frequented the restaurant at Ashtead Park for a number of years I was thoroughly dismayed with the lunch offering. The jacket potatoes were old & cold and the filling was very undesirable. What a shame. It would appear that the change of management has not gone well and the food is no longer of a very good standard. More focus should be spent on getting the basics right, otherwise more custom will be lost.
